    Department of Music Vocal

    Annual Activities 2024-25

    1.    Independence Day Event (14th August 2024)

    The Music Vocal Department students enthusiastically participated in the Independence Day Event held on 14 august 2024 in the college campus. The event aimed to commemorate the nation’s independence and celebrate the spirit of patriotism through patriotic songs and National Anthem.

     

    2.    Workshop on Basic Music Theory &Breathing technique during Singing Practice on 20th August 2024

    Under the direction of the Institution's Innovation Council, the Music Vocal departments conducted a workshop on Basic Music Theory & Breathing techniques during Singing Practice. In addition to sharing her opinions with the students, Mrs. Anu Bala, an Assistant Professor from the Department of Music Vocal provided theoretical and practical expertise on the subject. The students in the Music Vocal department thoroughly liked the two hours of enthralling instruction. She explained that Music theory helps singers understand scales, intervals, and chord structures. This knowledge allows singers to recognize and stay in tune with the correct pitches. She provided knowledge of rhythm, timing, and dynamics that helps singers interpret and express music more effectively, giving them the ability to convey emotions and intentions.

    3.    Guest lecture on The impact of western Music on Global Cultures on 28th August 2024

    On 28th August 2024, the Department of Music Vocal organized an insightful activity focused on exploring "The Impact of Western Music on Global Cultures." The purpose of the event was to give participants and students a broader knowledge of how Western music has changed and inspired cultures around the globe. The lesson was a component of a larger educational program designed to encourage student's appreciation of music and culture. An introduction to the history of Western music was given at the start of the session, covering everything from classical pieces to modern genres including pop, rock, and hip-hop. The guest of the event was Mr. Roney George, a renowned Music director and composer. He emphasized how Western music has changed over time and how it influences popular music around the world.

     

    4.    Lecture and competition on the topic ‘Reverence and Respect of Guru Granth Sahib on 4th September 2024.

    The Department of Music Vocal and the History Association of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an insightful lecture on the topic, Guru Granth Sahib: the reverence and respect. The lecture was delivered by Mrs. Anu Bala, an assistant professor in the Department of Music Vocal. During the lecture, she highlighted the significance of the music in Guru Granth Sahib.  After that, the department of music vocal held a competition on Gurbani Shabad. The students were profoundly moved by her valuable insights and left the session feeling enlightened and inspired. Mrs Kawaljit Kaur and Dr. Renu Bala were the judges of the competition.

     

     

    5.    Participation in Zonal Youth Festival 24 to 26 October 2024

    Students from the Department of Music Vocal from 24th to 26th October 2024 actively participated in the Zonal Youth Festival held at GNDU, Amritsar, showcasing their talents in a variety of cultural and artistic competitions and got first position in B-Zone Participants represented the institution in multiple categories, including Group Bhajan, Light Vocal (Solo), Group Song Indian, Folk Song, western song( group) western (solo) vaar Kawishri Geet/Ghazal. Each event highlighted the creativity & artistic excellence of the students.

    6.    Tribute to the Legend Ustad Zakir Hussain on 24th December 2024

    The Department of Music (Vocal and Dance) organized a heartfelt tribute to the legendary tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, celebrating his unparalleled contribution to Indian classical music and rhythm. The event took place on 24th Dec.2024 at college campus and was attended by students and faculty members. The program began with a brief introduction highlighting Ustad Zakir Hussain’s musical journey, achievements, and his role in popularizing Indian percussion on the global stage.

     

     

    7.    Participated in 149th Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan on 29th Dec 2024

    Students from the Department of Music (Vocal) had the esteemed opportunity to participate in the 149th Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, held at Jalandhar on 29th Dec 2024. This prestigious festival, known as one of the oldest and most revered platforms for Indian classical music, brought together legendary artists and young talents from across the country. The participation of our students in this historic event was both an honor and a valuable learning experience. They performed Saraswati Vandana and Harivallabh Vandana. The exposure to live performances by eminent maestros and the chance to engage with artists and peers from various institutions greatly enriched the students’ musical understanding and confidence. Their performance was well-received and appreciated by the audience for its clarity, expression, and adherence to tradition.

     

     

    8.    Lecture cum Demonstration on Basic Aspects of Light Music on 7 Feb 2025

    The Department of Music Vocal organized an insightful lecture-cum-demonstration on the basic aspects of light music on 7 Feb,2025 at Music room. The session aimed to introduce students to the fundamental elements and expressive qualities that define light music, bridging classical techniques with popular musical forms. The session began with a brief overview of the origin and evolution of light music in India, including its role in films, devotional music, and contemporary compositions. Through live demonstrations, she elaborated on key components such as melody, rhythm, voice modulation, expression, and lyrical interpretation. The audience was guided through examples from various genres like bhajans, ghazals, film songs, and patriotic music.

     

    9.     Gurbani Shabad Gayan on 10 Feb 2025

    The Department of Music Vocal in collaboration with the Guru Nanak Study Centre, organized a Group Song Competition to promote the teachings and philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji through the medium of music. The competition featured enthusiastic participation from various student groups, each presenting soulful renditions based on themes such as unity, peace, compassion, and spiritual wisdom – core values propagated by Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The event provided a platform for students to creatively express devotion and social messages through group singing.

     

    10. Participated in 150th Sathapana Diwas of Gurukul on 25 Feburary 2025

    Students of Music Vocal participated in 150th Sathapana Diwas of Gurukul at Kartarpur and performed Patriotic song.Their performances were met with great appreciationfrom the audience.

                   

    11. International webinar on Divine Harmony: Entrepreneurship on Gurbani Sangeet on 19 march 2025

    The Department of Music Vocal at PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) guidance, organized an International Webinar on ‘Divine Harmony: Entrepreneurship in Gurbani Sangeet’. It shed light on how the sacred art of devotional music can be respectfully transformed into career opportunities while preserving its spiritual essence. The keynote speaker of the session was Prof. Dalbir Singh, founder of Raag Naad Academy of Music, San Francisco, California, USA, an internationally acclaimed scholar and practitioner in the field of Gurbani Sangeet and music entrepreneurship. The speaker discussed various aspects, including the significance of Gurbani in musical traditions, professional avenues in religious and spiritual music, and strategies for aspiring musicians to establish themselves in this domain. The Department of Music Vocal at PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, under the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) guidance, organized an International Webinar on ‘Divine Harmony: Entrepreneurship in Gurbani Sangeet’. The event took place on a virtual platform and witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, faculty members, researchers, and music enthusiasts from across the globe. The webinar aimed to explore the intersection of spiritual music and entrepreneurship, focusing on the entrepreneurial potential embedded in Gurbani Sangeet.

     

    12. Workshop on Kathak on 25 March 2025

    The Department of Music Vocal with collaboration of Department of Dance successfully organized a Workshop on Kathak on 25 March 2025, aimed at enhancing students’ understanding of this classical dance form. The session was led by Dr. Mansi Saxena a distinguished Kathak artist and educator known for their expertise and dynamic teaching style. The workshop focused on the fundamental techniques, including basic footwork (tatkar), hand gestures (mudras), rhythmic patterns (taals), and expressive storytelling (abhinaya) which are integral to Kathak. Students were given live demonstrations and also participated in practical sessions, allowing them to experience the discipline and grace required in Kathak. 

                     

     

    Honour to faculty in the Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan 29 Dec 2024

     

    The Harivallabh Sangeet Sammelan, one of the oldest and most revered music festivals in India, acknowledged Mrs. Anu Bala from the Department of Music Vocal of PCM SD College for Women Jalandhar. Her recognition at such a renowned platform is a matter of great pride for the department and the institution.

     

     

     

     

    Internship on The Role of Rhythm in Enhancing Expressiveness in Singing on 3 April to 13 April 2025

     

    The internship was officially organized by the Department of Vocal Music from 3rd April to 13th April 2025 as part of a skill enhancement initiative under the guidelines of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The program aimed to provide hands-on training and in-depth understanding of the role of rhythm in enhancing expressiveness in singing. Through structured sessions, practical demonstrations, and performance-based activities, the internship sought to bridge theoretical knowledge with practical application, fostering holistic musical development among participants.

     

     


    LECTURE ON "INTRODUCTION TO BASIC TABLA RHYTHMS

    On 21st August 2024, the Department of Music Instrumental hosted an enlightening lecture titled "Introduction to Basic Tabla Rhythm," led by Mr. Krishan, an esteemed Tabla instructor from the Department of Dance at the college. The event was organized as part of the college's ongoing efforts to promote Indian classical music and provide students with opportunities to delve into traditional art forms. The lecture aimed to introduce students to the fundamental aspects of playing the Tabla, a traditional Indian percussion instrument with a significant place in Indian classical music.

      

    ADVANCED TECHNIQUES IN SITAR PLAYING

    Department of Music (Instrumental) in collaboration with the Institution’s Innovative Council of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an insightful workshop on advanced techniques of Sitar playing on 29th August 2024. The workshop focused on various advanced techniques that significantly enhance the expressiveness and complexity of sitar playing, providing a comprehensive understanding to both budding and seasoned musicians.


    STUDIO VISIT


    The Department of Music (Instrumental) of PCM S.D. College for Women, Jalandhar, organized an enriching studio tour to 'Super Sonic Studios' on 27th August 2024. The students had the unique opportunity to witness a live demonstration by the studio owner, Sh. Inderjit Singh Nikku explained the intricate process of recording and creating music tracks in a professional studio environment. Adding further to the experience, Mr. Rony George, a renowned music director and composer, shared his insights on the art of music production. He elaborated on how musicians meticulously record, mix, and produce music, utilizing a blend of live instrument playing, sound engineering software, and creative collaboration with fellow artists. 


    ZONAL YOUTH FESTIVAL


    The students of the Music Instrumental Department from the college participated in the Zonal Youth Festival held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, from 24th to 26th October 2025. Representing the college in various events, such as the Folk Orchestra and Non-Percussion, the students showcased exceptional talent and dedication. Their performance in the Folk Orchestra earned them the third position. At the same time, their overall participation and achievements contributed to the college winning the Overall Trophy in the ‘B’ Division of the festival. The event provided students with a valuable platform to exhibit their musical skills and brought pride to the institution through their commendable performances.


    'WORKSHOP IN COLLABORATION WITH NSS UNIT'

    The Music Instrument Department organized an online workshop in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the college under the "Unnat Bharat Abhiyan" on January 15, 2025. This skill development workshop aimed to teach students how to play the 'National Anthem' on various instruments while also fostering a sense of patriotism. Around 15-20 students participated in the activity.


    PAINTING COMPETITION: RHYTHMS ON CANVAS - CELEBRATING THE LEGEND USTAD ZAKIR HUSSAIN


    The Department of Music (Instrumental), in collaboration with the Department of Fine Arts, organized a vibrant Painting Competition titled ‘Rhythms on Canvas: Celebrating the Legend Ustad Zakir Hussain’ on March 08th, 2025. Held under the esteemed guidance of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event was a heartfelt tribute to the legendary Tabla maestro, Ustad Zakir Hussain, on his birth anniversary. The competition aimed to bridge the worlds of visual art and music, encouraging students to express rhythm, emotion, and legacy through their creative lens. 15 students from various academic streams enthusiastically participated, showcasing their artistic interpretations inspired by the maestro’s musical journey and contributions to Indian classical music. The event not only celebrated the genius of Ustad Zakir Hussain but also provided a platform for young artists to explore the symbiotic relationship between sound and color.



    ONE DAY WORKSHOP: "STRINGS, KEYS & BEATS"

    The Department of Music (Instrumental) successfully organized a one-day workshop titled “Strings, Keys and Beats” on March 27, 2025. This engaging and hands-on session was conducted by Mr. Rony George, a renowned music director and composer, and Mr. Rishi, an experienced music instructor. The workshop aimed to introduce students to various musical instruments, focusing on string, keyboard, and percussion elements. Students from different academic streams enthusiastically participated and had the opportunity to explore the fundamentals of playing instruments such as the guitar, keyboard, drums, and more. Under the resource persons' expert guidance, participants gained technical knowledge and experienced the joy of musical collaboration and rhythm-building. The interactive nature of the session fostered creativity and inspired many to pursue music more deeply. The event was a resounding success and was a meaningful step toward encouraging musical literacy and appreciation among students.



    BOLLYWOOD ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCE AT ROSHNAAZ FASHION SHOW


    The Music Instrumental Department presented a lively Bollywood Orchestra performance on the occasion of the college’s 50th Anniversary celebration – ‘Roshnaaz’ Fashion Show, held on 05th April 2025. A group of talented students showcased their skills by performing a medley of classic and contemporary Bollywood compositions. The orchestra featured a harmonious blend of instruments, including sitar, keyboards, tabla, guitars, flute, and drums. Under the guidance of departmental faculty, students demonstrated remarkable coordination, rhythm, and musical expression. The performance highlighted the rich cultural essence of Indian cinema music and provided an energetic and nostalgic atmosphere. It served as a tribute to Bollywood’s musical legacy and a platform for students to exhibit their creative talents.


    "NATIONAL WEBINAR"

    Department of Music Instrumental organized a one-day National Webinar titled “From Passion to Profit: Building a Successful Music Career in Sitar with Entrepreneurial Strategies” on 08th April 2025 to inspire and guide students on transforming their passion for sitar into a sustainable and rewarding profession. The webinar was led by Dr. Sunny Sharma, Assistant Professor from WRS Govt. College, Dehri (Himachal Pradesh). Dr. Sharma began the session by sharing his journey in classical music and emphasized the importance of passion, discipline, and continuous learning in mastering the sitar. He highlighted how traditional music careers are evolving and stressed the need for musicians to adopt entrepreneurial mindsets.




    2023-24

    Independence Day Event (15-08-2023)

    The Music Vocal Department students enthusiastically participated in the Independence Day event held on 15-08-2023 at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium. The event aimed to commemorate the nation’s independence and celebrate the spirit of patriotism through National Anthem.


    Mela Teean Da (18-08-23)

    The Music vocal Department students actively participated in “Mela Teean Da” event organized by The Cultural Enlightenment Cell on 18-08-2023 in the campus. The event aimed to celebrate Punjabi culture and heritage through various traditional performances,cultural displays and culinary delights.








    Geet Pratiyogita (2-10-2023)

     The Department of Music Vocal organized the Swacchata Geet Pratiyogita on 2 oct, 2023 at Department of Music Vocal. The competition aimed to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene through music, providing a platform for students to express their creativity and commitment to promoting cleanliness in society. Students of different streams participated in this competition. Harpreet from BA (1st Sem) stood first. Jiya from B.com (1st sem) stood 2nd & Arshdeep from B.com (1st sem) stood 3rd







    Workshop on Prominent Aspects of Tabla in Hindustani Music

    The Department of Music vocal organized two days workshop on “Prominent Aspects of Tabla in Hindustani Music” on 12-13 oct2023 at Department of Music Vocal. The workshop aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the Tabla, its significance in Hindustani Music and its prominent aspects including technique, rhythm and improvisation. The workshop was facilitated by a renowned Tabla maestro S. Surjeet Singh who brought years of expertise and experience in the field of Hindustani Music. Students got the opportunity to learn the importance of Tabla & rhythm in Hindustani Music. Participants gained insights into the significance of the Tabla as a percussion instrument in Hindustani Classical Music. The resource person demonstrated various techniques and hand movements used in playing tabla, such as ‘’bols,”kaydas”,’’tukdas’’ and ”relas”.participants had the opportunity to observe and practice these techniques under the guidance of the expert.











    Zonal Youth Festival

    The Zonal Youth Festival  organized by the Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar .The festival brought together talented youth from various zones to showcase their skills and creativity in a diverse range of cultural and artistic competitions. Competitions were adjudicated by a panel of expert judges .Our students participated & won the prizes in the various items of Inter-zonal youth festival Categories include :  Group Bhajan, Group Song, Folk Song, Geet, Folk Orchestra, Kavishri, Vaar, Western Group Song, Western Solo & Won overall Trophy.















    Republic Day (26-01-2024)

    The Students of the  Music vocal department enthusiastically participated in the Republic Day Event held at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium organized by State Govt. of Punjab. The event aimed to celebrate the nation’s unity, diversity and democratic values on the occasion of Republic Day. The students showcased their musical talents through melodious vocal performances that captured the spirit of patriotism and national pride. Chief Guest of the Function Mr. Harpal Singh Cheema, Finance Minister of Punjab, appraised the team. D.C. of Jalandhar Mr. Vishesh Sarangal appreciated the students for their participated and contribution for the occasion.




    Inter-College Competition (28th Feb 2024)

    The Inter-College Competition organized by Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering Technical Campus, Jalandhar, proved to be an exhilarating amalgamation of talent, creativity, and competitive spirit. This event provided a platform for students from various colleges to showcase their skills, intellect, and innovative ideas. Jiya from B.Com Sem 2nd participated.  


    Inter-College Competition (1st March 2024)

    The Inter-College Competition hosted by CT Institute, Jalandhar, emerged as a vibrant platform for students from various colleges to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across disciplines, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.  Jiya from B.Com Sem 2nd participated in Inter-College Competition organized by CT Institute Jalandhar.



    Tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh (21st March 2024)

    The Inter-College Competition hosted by CT Institute, Jalandhar, emerged as a vibrant platform for students from various colleges to showcase their talents, skills, and creativity. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across disciplines, fostering a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie.  Jiya from B.Com Sem 2nd participated in Inter-College Competition organized by CT Institute Jalandhar.





    Presentation of Bhajan (22nd March 2024)

    Students of Music Vocal Department. Presented Bhajan on the 200th Birth Anniversary of Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati Ji organized by Guru Virja Nand Gurukul Mahavidalaya, Kartarpur.




    National Webinar (6-04-2024)

    Deptment of Music Vocal organized National Webinar on the topic “Bhavon ki Abhivyakti mein Sangeet ki Bhumika”. The webinar explored how music serves as a conduit for the manifestation and communication of emotions across various cultural contexts. The speakers delved into the intricate ways in which music resonates with human emotions, transcending linguistic and cultural barriers. They highlighted the universality of certain musical elements in evoking specific emotional responses. The webinar provided a platform for the exchange of diverse cultural perspectives on the role of music in emotional expression. Speakers elucidated how different musical traditions incorporate distinct emotional nuances, reflecting the values and ethos of their respective cultures. The webinar explored practical applications of music in therapeutic settings, education, and creative expression. Presenters showcased innovative approaches to leveraging music as a tool for emotional healing, personal growth, and social cohesion. The webinar witnessed active participation from a diverse audience comprising students, scholars, musicians, psychologists, and music enthusiasts. Participants engaged in thought-provoking discussions, posed insightful questions, and shared their personal experiences related to the topic.
     







    Workshop (12-04-2024) 

    Under the guidance of the Institution’s Innovation Council Department of Music Vocal organized a workshop on “Nritya mein Gayan ka Sathaan” with the collaboration of Department of Dance. Students improved their rhythmic and expressive awareness. In Indian classical dance forms, music serves as the soul, guiding the performance's rhythm, mood, and expression. Each dancer's movement is intricately woven with the melody, rhythm, and lyrics of the accompanying music. Through the melodic nuances and lyrical interpretations, dancers convey emotions, narratives, and spiritual themes with finesse and depth. Ragas (melodic frameworks) and talas (rhythmic cycles) form the backbone of Indian classical music and dance. Dancers often perform to specific ragas and talas, each imbued with its unique mood, tempo, and aesthetic appeal. The melodic contours of ragas evoke varied emotions, while the rhythmic patterns of talas provide a structured framework for the dancer's improvisation and synchronization. The harmonious coordination of melody, rhythm, and movement captivates the audience, transporting them to realms of beauty, emotion, and spirituality. Whether it's the graceful movements of Bharatanatyam, the vibrant expressions of Kathak, or the lyrical storytelling., the symbiotic relationship of music and dance mesmerizes and enchants spectators worldwide. This session epitomizes the inseparable bond between music and dance in Indian classical arts. Through their symbiotic relationship, music and dance transcend individual expressions, merging into a sublime form of artistic expression. Students shared their views on the topic. Dr. Sugandhi Bhandari expressed theoretical and practical knowledge about the subject and Mrs. Anu Bala expressed her views to the students. Ms. Samratha, a classical dancer of the college, of the 6th semester, performed on thumri “sab ban than ayi shyam payari re” and later she performed on Sawal Jawab and ended with tehai of teental. It was a spellbound workshop of one and a half hours fully enjoyed by the students of the dance and music vocal department.








    2022-23

    Department of Music organised a 'Devotional Music Competition' on 15th April 2023. Students of different streams participated in this competition. Harsharan Kaur, Bhumika and Harpreet recevied the first position, Preeti, Tanya and Riya got second position and Khushi got 3rd position.




    The Youth Club in collaboration with the Department of Music of PCM SD College for Women, Jalandhar organized the Classical Music (Non-Percussion) Competition and Patriotic Song Competition on 13th March and 11th March 2023 respectively, 203 under Y-20 Summit, as per the directives of the Department of Youth Affairs, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Govt. of India and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. It is a unique platform to allow the youth to provide constructive policy inputs and to utilize the platform to voice their talent for the world audience.

     

    Department of Music organized an International Webinar on 8th April 2023 on the topic 'The contribution of Sikh musicology to the study of Gurbani sangeet: reflections on gender and inclusivity'. Prof. Francesca Cassio from Hofstra University (New York) was the resource person of the day. She talked about the Gurbani Sangeet and the role of Women in Gurbani Sangeet.


    Department of Music organized a National Webinar on 25th March 2023 on the topic 'Sitar, a popular instrument among string instruments: with special reference to Film Music'. Dr. Bhairvi, Assistant Professor, Department of Music, Government College for Girls, Cheeka was the resource person of the day. She threw considerable light on the importance and use of the Sitar instrument in Bollywood music.



    Department of Music organised a 'Classical Music Competition' on 13th February 2023. Students of different classes participated in this competition. Gurdev Kaur got the first position, Darshan Kaur received the second position and Khushi Batra got the 3rd position.


    Our students performed National Anthem at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar, on the occasion of the Independence Day celebration on 15th August 2022.


        

    Km. Gurdev and Km. Darshan Kaur of B.Com 1st Semester and B.A. 3rd Semester won 1st, and 2nd position, respectively, at the Varshik Vidyak Samelan, held at Shri Bhaini Sahib on 3rd October 2022. 



                       



           

                   

    Students of the Music Department participated in different items at the Zonal Youth festival held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, from 15th November to 17th November 2022, and won various prizes. Group Bhajan won 3rd prize, Waar won 3rd prize, Folk Orchestra won 3rd prize, Western Group Song and Western Solo won 3rd prize. Students also participated in items like Geet, Classical Non-Percussion (Sitar), National Group Song, and Kavishari. Once again, the college bagged the Overall Trophy in the 'B' division.





    2021-2022


    To commemorate the 75th Anniversary of India’s Freedom as Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of Music organized a ‘Patriotic Song Competition’ on 17th March 2022, in which about fifteen students participated. Ankita got 1st prize, Harsharan Kaur received 2nd prize, and Darshan, Riya, and Karishma (Group) bagged the third prize.



    Department of Music orgainsed ‘Gurbani Shabad Recitation’ on the Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji on 26th November 2021. Students of varied streams participated in the same and gave away their stellar performances to pay homage to the exemplary sage.


               

    Department of Music held a teary tribute to the prodigious artist, Lata Mangeshkar, on 10th February 2022, who can certainly be no less than an institution in herself.  Lata Ji’s charm was not just restricted across the nation but her rapturous strains will continue to reverberate around the world, eliciting nothing but adulation and unsurpassable glee. Members of the music department gave a singing performance to pay her homage.



    To pay tribute to legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar Ji, students of the Music Department participated in the program organised by the Virsa Vihar on the occasion of International Women’s Day on 08th March 2022. 




    Our student Gurdeep Kaur participated in SPARK-2022 organized by Apeejay Institute of Management & Engineering, Jalandhar, on 08th April 2022.


    Youth Festival

    Our students participated in different items at the zonal youth festival held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, from 12th November to 15th November 2021, and won various prizes. Indian Group Song won 2nd prize, Group Bhajan won 2nd prize, Waar won 3rd prize, Folk Orchestra won 3rd prize, and Western Group Song won 3rd prize. Students also participated in items like Geet, Western Solo, and Kavishari. PCM SD College for Women bagged the overall trophy in the 'B' division.






                                  




       


               


    2019-20




    Our students performed National Anthem at Lion's Club, Jalandhar, and were honored by the Deputy Commissioner of Jalandhar.

    Youth Festival
    Our students participated in different items at the zonal youth festival from 30th October to 2nd November 2019 and won various prizes in different items like: Indian Group Song won 2nd prize, Group Bhajan won 3rd prize, 
    Western Group Song won 3rd prize,  Folk Orchestra won 3rd prize, Taniya won 3rd individual prize in Folk Orchestra, Taniya bagged 3rd position in Classical Non-Percussion (Solo). Students also participated in items like Geet, Western Solo, and Kavishari.




     




      






     






    Our college celebrated the Lohri Festival in which students of different classes performed various folk songs.

    2018-19




     

    The Talent Hunt function was organized by the Department of Music on 1st September 2018.

    Our students performed group Shabad in the Felicitation function organized in the college campus on 4th September 2018.


    Youth Festival

       




    Zonal Youth Festival organised by Guru Nanak Dev University from 28th -31st October 2018, in which our students bagged 1st prize ni Group Bhajan, 2nd Group Song, 3rd Western Solo, 3rd Western Group, 2nd Waar, and 3rd Folk Orchestra.



    Lohri Festival was celebrated in our college in collaboration with 'UDAAN' NGO on 12th January 2019.



    Our students presented National Anthem at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar on the occasion of Republic Day on 26th January 2019. 



     
    Students of the Music Department got privileged to perform Saraswati Vandana at Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Samelan, Jalandhar, on 26th December 2018.    


    On 2nd March 2019, Fashion Show was organised by the Department of Fashion Designing in which our students performed devotional songs, Sufi songs, Bollywood mashup, and folk songs.


    Our students presented group bhajan and folk songs at the 45th Convocation. 




    2017-18


        

    Talent Hunt competition organized by the Department of Music on 16-08-2017. Students of different streams participated in various genres of vocal and instrumental. 



    Department of Music organized the "Group Folk Song" competition on 27th August 2017. 

    A guest lecture was organized by Mr. Kuljit Singh on the topic of 'Different Techniques used in Light Music' on 07th September 2017.


    On 3rd November 2017, the Department of Music organized a Devotional interclass singing competition.


    Our students participated in Doaba Youth Festival on 09th November 2017, at Doaba College, Jalandhar, in various items such as Folk Song, Ghazal, and Sufi Kalaam. Km. Kamalpreet Kaur won 2nd position in Folk Song and 3rd prize in Sufi Kalaam and Km. Komal bagged a consolation prize in the Ghazal category.


    Our student presented a folk song at the DAVIET college, Jalandhar, on 10th December 2017, organized by Ramnavami Society. 



          

    'Lohri Dhiyian Di' function was organized by Sarb Sukh Sewa Society on our college campus on 12th January 2018. Our students participated in Group Shabad, Group Sufi, Folk Song, Folk Orchestra and Ghazal. 


    On 19th January 2018, our student Kamalpreet participated in the intercollege Folk Song Competition organized by CT Institute, Jalandhar, and she got 3rd prize.




    On the occasion of the Republic Day celebration on 26th January 2018, our students presented National Anthem at Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, Jalandhar.


                                    
    Department of Music Organized a musical concert with the collaboration of SPIC MACAY organization on the college campus. The main artist of the event was Pandit Brij Narayan (Sarod), and Shri Tarun Lala accompanied him on Tabla.


    Our student Km. Komal participated in the Intercollege 'SurTaal' Competition organized by Doaba College, Jalandhar. She won 1st position in the solo Bhajan category. 


    Our student Km. Kamalpreet Kaur participated in the Intercollege Folk Song Competition organized by KCL Management College, Jalandhar. She won 1st position in the folk song category.








    Students of the Music Department participated in various items of the Zonal Youth Festival held at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, from 26-10-2017 to 29-10-2017. Km. Kamalpreet Kaur got 2nd prize in a Zonal youth festival in Folk Song. She also bagged 2nd position at Inter-Zonal Youth Festival on 01st November 2017. 

    On 6th March 2019, the 44th Convocation was held on the college campus in which our students presented group bhajan and folk songs.


    2016-17


    A guest lecture organized by the department of music on the topic "Techniques of Sarangi and Dhad" by Sardar Ranjit Singh on 17th October 2016. 


    Students of the Music Department presented group bhajan in the presence of College Management in the Felicitation Function held on 3rd October 2016. 

     
    A guest lecture organized by the department of music on the topic "Fusion Music" by Shri Naresh Nirmohi on 20th October 2016. 


    "Fusion of Melodies" group song competition held on 05th November 2016 at Seth Hukam Chand Sr. Sec. School, Sangal Sohal, Jalandhar. Our team won 1st prize in this competition.





    Our Students Km. Kamalpreet Kaur and Km. Komal participated in Doaba Youth Festival held at Doaba College, Jalandhar, on 10th November 2016. They won 1st prize in Folk Song and 2nd prize in Geet/Ghazal, respectively. 




    Students of the Music Department got privileged to perform Saraswati Vandana at Shree Baba Harivallabh Sangeet Samelan, Jalandhar, on 24th December 2016.

    Students of the Music Department performed traditional Lohri songs on the occasion of the Lohri Celebration function organized by the Department of Punjabi on the college premises on 13th January 2017.


    Our students performed patriotic songs at Red Cross Bhawan, Jalandhar, organized by the National Martyr's Memorial Committee on the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose on 23rd January 2017.


    Patriotic Songs were presented by the various students of the department on the eve of the Republic Day celebration on 25th January 2017 on the college campus.



    Our students presented Saraswati Vandana, geet/Ghazal, and Folk Song in the presence of the management committee on the 42nd Convocation of the college on 18th March 2017.




    Department of Fashion Designing organized a Fashion Show "Adviteeya" on 25th February 2017 in which Km. Komalpreet performed a Punjabi folk song.
